Dr. Kamarudin

On behalf of ASEAN University Network (AUN), I would like to warmly welcome all participants to the 11th AUN Educational Forum and Young Speakers Contest. It is indeed a privilege for AUN to be co-hosting this significant Forum. This time, the pattern of the Forum is developed into the form of a model ASEAN Summit where a group of students can assume roles of ASEAN delegations and discuss major issues on the regional agenda in a simulated ASEAN Summit setting.

The major aim of the Forum is to offer these students the opportunity to present their papers and deliver their speeches towards various ASEAN issues.Specially this year, the theme of the Forum focuses on a global economic crisis which make this Forum the more relevant to all of us, as it challenges us the delay on the progress of our single-community building efforts, as outlined in the ASEAN Charter.

In this relation, the proposed theme, “Global Economic Crisis : Challenges and Opportunities for ASEAN” is properly set for our talented youths in their quest for the achievement of ASEAN integration.Subsequently, the Forum will be concluded with the Joint Statement on ASEAN Youth which will be tabled at the related ASEAN meetings.Above all, we sincerely hope that the bridge of friendships you have built at the forum will be lasting and growing with a network of cooperation among ASEAN youths towards ASEAN people-oriented and ASEAN single community.

Thank you very much.
